In 2023, the total value of fresh apricots exported worldwide reached approximately US$530.4 million.
Between 2019 and 2023, global apricot export revenues grew by an average of 9.6%, compared to $483.8 million recorded five years prior.
On a year-over-year basis, the value of international apricot exports climbed 10.9% from the $478.2 million achieved in 2022.
Similar in appearance to a small peach, apricots come in a range of varieties with textures from juicy to dry and flavors spanning from sweet to tangy.
The five largest apricot exporters — Spain, Türkiye, Italy, France, and Uzbekistan — collectively accounted for over two-thirds (68.7%) of total global exports in 2023.
Looking at exports from a regional viewpoint, Europe dominated in 2023, supplying $337 million worth of fresh apricots or 63.5% of the global total. Asia followed with a 31.9% share. Much smaller contributions came from North America (2.1%), Africa (2%), Latin America (0.25%, excluding Mexico but including the Caribbean), and Oceania (Australia and New Zealand combined, also 0.25%).
Turning to imports, the top five importing nations in 2023 were Germany, Russia, Austria, Italy, and France. Together, they purchased 51.9% of the world’s imported apricots by value.
This concentration suggests that the 69 countries exporting apricots (with the top five representing 68.7% of exports) formed a more compact group compared to the 140 countries, islands, and territories buying them — where the top five accounted for a relatively smaller share at 51.9%.
In terms of regional import patterns, Europe absorbed a dominant 84.5% of the world's imported apricots in 2023, far ahead of Asia (12%), North America (2.2%), Africa (1.1%), Latin America (0.25%), and Oceania (0.02%), with Australia leading that last group.
The average import price for apricots stood at $1,415 per ton in 2023, representing a 5.1% increase over the 2022 average of $1,346 per ton.
For reference, fresh apricots are classified under the Harmonized Tariff System (HTS) code 080910.
