In 2022, Bolivia spent $13.05 billion on products imported from around the world. From 2021 to 2022, Bolivia's imports grow by 36.5% from $9.6 billion.

5. Plastics, plastic products: $633.8 million (4.9%)

6. Steel: $603.7 million (4.6%)

7. Other chemicals: $471.1 million (3.6%)

8. Iron and steel products: $262.9 million (2%)

9. Pharmaceuticals: $248.5 million (1.9%)

10. Rubber, rubber products: $245.8 million (1.9%)


Bolivia's top ten import categories accounted for more than three-quarters (76.4%) of the total value of products it purchased from other countries.


Among these major import categories, the fastest growing were fossil fuels including petroleum (up 97.6% from 2021), rubber materials and rubber products (up 38.4%), and then Bolivia's machinery imports including computers (up 34.9%).


The only decline in major imports was in the pharmaceuticals category, which fell by -3.2%.



Exports

Bolivia exported $13.65 billion worth of products to the world in 2022. From 2021 to 2022, the total value of Bolivian exports increased by 23.8% from $11 billion.



Bolivia's Best International Trade Customers

The latest country-specific data shows that the main products exported from Bolivia were purchased by importers from India (16.5% of Bolivia's total), Brazil (13.9%), Argentina (12.8%), Colombia (7.8%), Japan (7.1%), Peru (6.2%), China (5.8%), South Korea (3.9%), the United Arab Emirates (3.7%), and Ecuador (3.7%). ), Ecuador (3.1%), the United States (2.7%), followed by the Netherlands (2.2%).

Bolivia's top ten export groups account for 93.6% of its total global export value.


Fertilizers are the fastest growing of the top ten export groups, growing 444.1% from 2021 to 2022. The second highest improvement in export sales was for oilseeds shipped from Bolivia, which advanced 183 percent. Bolivia had the third highest increase in meat exports, up 88.2 percent.


The smallest increase in Bolivia's top ten export categories was tin, which was flat with a 0.8 percent increase year-over-year.


Drilling down to the more granular four HS codes, Bolivia's most valuable export was petroleum gas (22.3% of Bolivia's total exports), followed by gold (22%), zinc ores and concentrates (13.3%), soya bean oil cake plus other solid residues (7.2%), soya bean oil (6.3%), precious metal ores and concentrates (5.5%), unprocessed tin (3.7%), soybeans ( 2.4%), Brazil nuts and a small amount of coconut (1.4%), followed by nitrogen fertilizer (1.4%).
