Fiji shipped $1.07 billion worth of products globally in 2022. Compared to $815.9 million in 2021, Fiji's product exports grew by 31.2% in 2022.
Fiji's Most Valuable Trading Partners for Exports
The latest country-specific data shows that Fiji's exports are mainly purchased by importers in the following countries: USA (20.7% of Fiji's global total), Australia (10.9%), Tonga (6.7%) %), New Zealand (6.3%), Samoa (3.3%), Japan (3.2%), Italy (3.1%), Vanuatu (3%), Mainland China ( 2.9%), American Samoa (2.6%), Kiribati (2.3%) and Wallis and Futuna Islands (2.1%).
Fiji's Top 10 Exports
1. Fossil fuels including petroleum: $251.8 million (23.5% of total exports)
2. Beverages, spirits, vinegar: $170.6 million (15.9%)
3. Fish: $90.7 million (8.5%)
4. Sugar, confectionery: $73.3 million (6.8%)
5. Gems, precious metals: $46.8 million (4.4%)
6. Cereals/milk products: $43.3 million (4%)
7. Timber: $43.3 million (4%)
8. Motors, equipment: $25.9 million (2.4%)
9. Meat/seafood products: $25.8 million (2.4%)
10. Clothing, accessories (not knitted or crocheted): $24.7 million (2.3%)
Fiji's top ten exports accounted for almost three-quarters (74.4%) of its total global export value.
Fossil fuels, including petroleum, is the fastest growing of the top ten export categories, growing by 175.6% from 2021 to 2022. The second highest improvement in export sales was in sugar, including confectionery, which grew by 66.3%. Fiji's Beverages, Spirits and Vinegar product category saw the third fastest appreciation in shipments, growing by 58 percent.
The biggest fall in Fiji's top 10 export categories was timber, dragged down by a -25.5% year-on-year decline in international sales.
Based on the finer four-digit HS code, processed petroleum was Fiji's most valuable export, accounting for 23% of the country's total exports. In second place was mineral or aerated water (15.5%), followed by whole frozen fish (7.4%), sugar (5.7%), unwrought gold (4.3%), breads and cookies, and cakes and pastries (2.5%), fuelwood, woodchips, and sawdust (2.1%), medicinal plants (1.8%), sawn timber (1.7%), and then wheat or maslin flour (1.6%).
