The latest country-specific data shows that 70.8 percent of New Zealand's imports were supplied by exporters in mainland China (35.6 percent of New Zealand's global total), Australia (7.5%), the United States (5.2%), South Korea (5.1%), Japan (4%), Singapore (2.8%), Germany (2.7%), Thailand (2.2%), Malaysia (2.2%), UK (1.8%), Italy (1.7%) and Vietnam (1.3%).

New Zealand's top 10 imports accounted for 63.2% of its total product purchases from other countries.
Imported fossil fuels, including petroleum, are the fastest growing value category among New Zealand's top 10 imports, increasing by 58.8% from 2021 to 2022. In second place is imported food industry waste and animal feed (up 27.8%), followed by pharmaceuticals up 17.8% year-on-year.
The steepest decline was in New Zealand's imports of furniture, bedding, lighting, signs and prefabricated building products category down -3.6% from 2021.

New Zealand exported $44 billion worth of products globally in 2022. New Zealand exports of goods increased by 1.4% from $43.4 billion in 2021.
In 2022, New Zealand's largest exports by value were concentrated and sweetened milk or cream, butter, sheep or goat meat, frozen beef and logs. New Zealand is the world leader in exports of concentrated and sweetened milk or cream, logs and butter, as well as other dairy fats and oils. New Zealand is also among the world's top sellers of sheep and frozen beef.

The latest country-specific data shows that New Zealand's exports are mainly purchased by importers in mainland China (28.8% of the global total), Australia (11.2%), the USA (10.9%), Japan (6%), South Korea (3.7%), Indonesia (3%), Taiwan (2.4%), Singapore (2.3%), the UK (2%), Thailand ( 2%), Malaysia (2%) and the Netherlands (1.5%).

New Zealand's top 10 exports accounted for more than three-quarters (76.1%) of the total value of its global exports.
Modified starches, glues and enzymes are the fastest growing product group in the top ten export categories, growing by 30.3% from 2021 to 2022. The second highest improvement in export sales was for cereal or dairy products, which grew by 8.9%. New Zealand dairy products, eggs and honey saw the third fastest growth in export sales, up 7.9% year-on-year.
The biggest fall in New Zealand's top 10 export categories was timber, down -14.8%.
