Syria exported $612.1 million worth of export products to the world in 2022. Compared to $1.1 billion in 2021, the value of Syria's export products decreased by -44.2% year-on-year.


Syria's top 5 exports are olive oil, natural calcium phosphate, mixed nuts, ungummed and ungummed cotton, followed by cumin or coriander seeds and juniper berries.

The latest country-specific data show that exports from Syria are mainly purchased by importers from Iraq (20.2% of the global total), Italy (13.4%), Germany (13%), Turkey (5.5%), Saudi Arabia (4.8%), France (4.3%), Lebanon (3.8%), Jordan (3.6%), the United States (3.5%) , Netherlands (3.5%), Egypt (3.4%) and Spain (2.1%) .

5. Coffee, tea, spices: $45.9 million (7.5%)

6. Cotton: $35.8 million (5.9%)

7. Steel: $25 million (4.1%)

8. Vegetable/Fruit/Nut Products: $25 million (4.1%)

9. Cereals: $15.4 million (2.5%)

10. Glass: $15.2 million (2.5%)


Syria's top 10 exports accounted for more than three-quarters (76.1%) of its total global exports.


Metal steel is the fastest growing of the top ten export categories, growing by 552.4% from 2021 to 2022. The second highest improvement in export sales was glass from Syria, up 28.5%. Cotton shipments from Syria ranked third in terms of increase, up 20.7 percent.


The largest drop in Syria's top 10 export categories was Vegetable, Fruit or Nut Products, down -59.6% year-over-year.


At the more detailed 4-digit HS code level, Syria's most valuable exports are olive oil (18.4% of Syria's global total), natural calcium phosphate (7.3%), miscellaneous nuts (6.2%), un-combed and uncombed cotton (5.8%), cumin or coriander seeds and juniper berries (4.2%), iron and steel scrap (4%), pickled vegetables (3.3%), fresh apples and pears (3.1%), wheat (2.5%), glass containers including bottles, jars and tubs (2.3%).
