El Salvador exported $7.12 billion worth of products globally in 2022. This represents an increase of 25.7% compared to $5.7 billion in 2021.

The latest country-specific data show that El Salvador's exports are mainly purchased by importers from the United States (39.2% of El Salvador's global total), Guatemala (17.1%), Honduras (16.7%), Nicaragua (7%), Costa Rica (4.3%), Mexico (2.7%), Panama (2%), the Dominican Republic (1.6%), and Germany (1.6%). 1.6%), Germany (1.3%), Canada (1%), Spain (0.8%) and Italy (0.7%).

1. Knitted or crocheted clothing, accessories: $2.1 billion (28.9% of total exports)
2. Plastics, plastic products: $603.2 million (8.5%)
3. Paper, paper products: $418.4 million (5.9%)
4. Electrical machinery, equipment: $418.2 million (5.9%)
5. Fossil fuels including oil: $340.9 million (4.8%)
6. Sugar, confectionery: $312.8 million (4.4%)

El Salvador's top ten exports accounted for more than two-thirds (68.2%) of its total global exports.
Electrical machinery and equipment is the fastest growing of the top ten export categories, up 394.6% since 2021. The second highest improvement in export sales was in knitted or crocheted apparel and accessories, up 69 percent. El Salvador's Coffee, Tea and Spices product category realized the third-fastest value growth in shipments, up 42.9 percent year-over-year.
El Salvador's largest decline among the top 10 export categories was pharmaceuticals, down -19%.
Drilling down to more detailed 4-digit HS codes, El Salvador's 10 most valuable exports were knitted or crocheted jerseys and pullovers (11.5% of El Salvador's total), knitted or crocheted jerseys and pullovers (7.4%), plastic packaged goods, including lids and hats (4.4%), capacitors (3.7%), sugar (3.2%), paper towels or napkins and toilet paper (3% ), coffee (2.5%), knitted or crocheted stockings and hosiery (2.3%), drugs by dosage (2.2%), and processed petroleum (2.1%) mixed.
