Romania exported $96.8 billion worth of goods to the world in 2022. Compared to $87.5 billion in 2021, the total value of Romanian exports increased by 10.7% year-on-year.
Main International Customers of Romanian Exports
The latest country-specific data shows that more than two-thirds (68.9%) of Romania's exports were purchased by importers in Germany (19.8% of Romania's total), Italy (10.1%), Hungary (7.3%), France (6%), Bulgaria (3.9%), Poland (3.8%), the Netherlands (3.5%), Spain ( 3.11%), Turkey (3.08%), Czech Republic (2.89%), United Kingdom (2.88%), followed by the United States (2.5%).

1. Motors, equipment: $15.9 billion (16.4% of total exports)
2. Vehicles: $13.8 billion (14.2%)
3. Machinery including computers: $9.5 billion (9.8%)
4. Mineral fuels including oil: $7.4 billion (7.6%)
5. Grains: $4.6 billion (4.7%)
6. Iron and steel: $3.5 billion (3.6%)
7. Rubber, rubber products: $3.2 billion (3.3%)
8. Iron and steel products: $3.13 billion (3.2%)
9. Furniture, bedding, lighting, signs, prefabricated buildings: $3.06 billion (3.2%)
10. Optics, technology, medical equipment: $2.9 billion (3%)
Romania's top 10 exports accounted for more than two-thirds (69.2%) of its total global exports.
Fossil fuels, including oil, are the fastest growing of the top ten export categories, growing 138.8% from 2021 to 2022. Ranking second in terms of improved export sales is iron and steel products, which grew by 14%. Romania's rubber and rubber products exports grew the third fastest, by 12.5%.
The biggest drop in Romania's top 10 product categories was in steel and iron metal exports, which fell by -9.6% year-on-year.
At the more detailed 4-digit HS code level, Romania's most valuable exports were automotive parts or accessories (6.9% of Romania's total exports), automobiles (6.4%), insulated wires or cables (4.3%), processed petroleum oils (3.8%), electrical and optical circuit boards or panels (3.3%), new rubber tires (2.3%), wheat (2.2%), corn (2.1%), electricity (1.9%), and then LPG (1.6%).
