In August 2023, U.S. exports reached $256 billion.
Of this, shipments of industrial supplies and materials increased by $2.7 billion, led by crude oil (up $1.5 billion) and fuel oil (up $0.5 billion). Meanwhile, exports of capital goods surged $1.1 billion, driven by higher shipments of computer parts (up $0.5 billion) and semiconductors (up $0.3 billion). In addition, exports of consumer goods rose by $1 billion, with pharmaceutical preparations up by $0.4 billion. On the other hand, overseas sales of complete automobiles, parts, and engines declined by $1.4 billion, with passenger cars down by $0.8 billion and trucks, buses, and specialty vehicles down by $0.5 billion. Exports of services increased by $1 billion to $84.5 billion, driven by tourism (up $0.8 billion) and financial services (up $0.2 billion).
