Indonesia imported $237.4 billion worth of products from the world in 2022, up 21.3% from $195.7 billion in 2021.
Indonesia's top 10 imports
1. fossil fuels including oil: $44.9 billion (18.9% of total imports)
2. Machinery including computers: US$31.6 billion (13.3%)
3. Electrical machinery and equipment: $26.4 billion (11.1%)
4. Iron and steel: $13.9 billion (5.9%)
5. Plastics, plastic products: $11.1 billion (4.7%)
6. Vehicles: $9.5 billion (4%)
7. Organic chemicals: $7.7 billion (3.2%)
8. Food Industry Waste, Animal Feed: $4.6 billion (1.9%)
9. Cereals: $4.5 billion (1.9%)
10. Iron and steel products: $4 billion (1.7%)
In 2022, the largest increases in Indonesia's top 10 import categories will be in mineral fuels, including petroleum (up 55.7%), vehicles (up 41.7%), iron and steel products (up 27%), and then machinery, including computers (up 22.2%).
In terms of HTS codes, Indonesia's five most valuable imports are processed petroleum, crude oil, telephone equipment including smartphones, oil and gas, and automotive parts or accessories.
Top source countries for Indonesian imports
More than three-quarters (78%) of Indonesia's imports come from the following countries: mainland China (28.5% of Indonesia's total), Singapore (8.2%), Japan (7.2%), Malaysia (5.3%), South Korea (4.94%), the United States (4.92%), Thailand (4.6%), Australia (4.2%), India (3.9%), Saudi Arabia ( 2.3%), Vietnam (2%) and Taiwan (1.9%).
In 2022, Indonesia exported goods worth US$292 billion to all parts of the world. Compared to US$231.6 billion in 2021, Indonesia's total exports increased by 26.1% year-on-year.

2. Animal and vegetable fats, oils, waxes: US$35.2 billion (12.1%)
3. Iron and steel: $27.8 billion (9.5%)
4. motors, equipment: $14.6 billion (5%)
5. Vehicles: $11 billion (3.8%)
6. Ore, slag, ash: $10.3 billion (3.5%)
7. Other chemicals: $8.5 billion (2.9%)
8. Footwear: $7.7 billion (2.7%)

10. rubber, rubber products: $6.4 billion (2.2%)
Ore, slag and ash is the fastest growing of the top ten export categories, growing by 62.2% from 2021 to 2022. The second highest growth in export volume is in fossil fuels including oil, with coal and LPG growing by 57.5%. Indonesia's metal steel exports ranked third in terms of volume growth, increasing by 33%.
The only decline in Indonesia's top 10 export categories was rubber, including rubber products, down -10.1% year-on-year.
