In 2023, motorcycle exports amounted to an estimated $42.2 billion globally.
Overall, the value of motorcycle exports from all countries saw a notable increase of 40.9% compared to 2019, when total exports were valued at $30 billion. However, year-on-year, the global export value for motorcycle exports dropped by 2.5% from $43.3 billion in 2022.
The top five motorcycle-exporting nations—mainland China, Germany, Japan, Thailand, and India—together accounted for around 57.3% of the worldwide motorcycle export market in 2023.
Regionally, Asian countries led the way, contributing $24.9 billion in motorcycle exports, representing 58.9% of the global total. European countries followed, making up 37.5% of global motorcycle exports, while North American countries supplied 2.8% of the total.
Smaller shares of motorcycle exports came from Latin American countries (0.4%, excluding Mexico), Africa (0.3%), and Oceania (0.1%, primarily from Australia and New Zealand).
For classification purposes, motorcycles, including mopeds and cycles fitted with auxiliary motors, fall under the 4-digit Harmonized Tariff System (HS) code 8711. This covers motorcycles with or without sidecars and is relevant for motorcycle exports.

Among the top motorcycle exporters, Hungary, Japan, Austria, and the United States saw the most significant growth since 2022, with export increases of 23%, 10.6%, 8.7%, and 8.5%, respectively. On the other hand, Taiwan, Indonesia, the Netherlands, India, and Vietnam experienced declines in motorcycle export value, with decreases of -23%, -21%, -15.6%, -10.6%, and -9.9%, respectively.
