Global platinum exports from all countries reached a total of US$72.45 billion in 2022. This marks a significant 124.2% increase in value for all platinum-exporting nations compared to 2018, when platinum exports were valued at $32.3 billion. However, year-over-year, the global platinum exports value dropped by 20.1% from the $90.6 billion recorded in 2021.
The top five platinum exporters in 2022 were South Africa, the United States, the United Kingdom, Russia, and Germany. Combined, these countries were responsible for 69.6% of the world's total platinum exports that year.
In terms of continental distribution, European countries led the global platinum exports market, with shipments valued at $36.8 billion, representing 50.8% of the total. Africa followed, contributing 23.1%, while North America accounted for 14.4%. Asian suppliers provided another 11.6% of worldwide platinum exports.
Smaller portions came from Latin America (0.1%, excluding Mexico but including the Caribbean) and Oceania, mainly Australia and New Zealand (0.03%).
For trade data and research purposes, the Harmonized Tariff System (HTS) code for unwrought or semi-manufactured platinum exports is 7110, which also includes palladium, rhodium, iridium, osmium, and ruthenium.

Some of the fastest-growing platinum exporters between 2021 and 2022 included the United Arab Emirates, which saw an astonishing 2,058% rise, as well as Japan with a 22.7% increase. However, many major platinum exporters saw declines, including South Korea (-32.3%), the United Kingdom (-30.5%), South Africa (-27.7%), Canada (-25.4%), and the United States (-23.9%).
