In 2022, the global market for exported animal feeds reached a total value of US$21.4 billion.
This figure, which excludes retail sales of pet dog and cat food, marks a significant 29.9% increase from the $16.5 billion reported in 2018, five years earlier.
In comparison, exports of dog and cat food intended for retail sales reached $22.7 billion in 2022, surpassing the value of exported animal feeds.
On a year-over-year basis, exported animal feeds saw an 8% increase from $19.8 billion in 2021.
The top five exported animal feeds countries are the Netherlands, the United States, Germany, China, and Belgium. Together, these nations accounted for 47.7% of global exported animal feeds in 2022.
From a regional perspective, European countries led the way in 2022, exporting animal feeds worth $13.2 billion, or 61.5% of the global total. Asian exporters followed with a 20.7% share, while 10.5% of the global exported animal feeds originated from North America.
Smaller contributions came from Latin America (5.3%, excluding Mexico but including the Caribbean), Africa (1.3%), and Oceania (0.5%), with Australia and New Zealand being the primary exporters.

These 15 nations accounted for 74% of all exported animal feeds in 2022.
Among the leading exporters, the fastest-growing since 2021 were Türkiye (up 64.9%), China (up 24.7%), Malaysia (up 21.2%), and Italy (up 15%).
Meanwhile, four countries saw a decrease in their exported animal feeds values: Denmark (down 13.7% from 2021), Spain (down 8.4%), France (down 4.6%), and Austria (down 2.3%).
