In 2022, the global export market for sweet cherries reached a total value of US$4.53 billion.
Since 2018, the overall value of sweet cherries exported has increased by an average of 64.1%, rising from $2.76 billion. From 2021 to 2022, the value of globally exported sweet cherries saw a growth of 7.3%, starting from $4.22 billion.
The top five exporters of sweet cherries—Chile, Hong Kong, the United States, Turkey, and Canada—accounted for 88% of all international sales in 2022. This high percentage reflects the concentration of major sweet cherry exporters in the global market.
From a regional perspective, Latin American countries (excluding Mexico but including the Caribbean) led the cherries export market in 2022, with shipments totaling $2.15 billion, or 47.5% of the global total. Smaller shares came from Oceania (Australia and New Zealand) at 2.1% and Africa at 0.1%.

These 15 countries collectively accounted for 97.7% of global sweet cherry exports in 2022.
Among these leading exporters, Belgium saw the fastest growth in sweet cherries exports since 2021 with an increase of 68.3%, followed by Canada at 57.5%, New Zealand at 46%, and Azerbaijan at 34%.
Conversely, the countries that experienced declines in their international sales of sweet cherries included Uzbekistan (down 60.8% from 2021), Spain (down 37.9%), the United States (down 27.2%), Turkey (down 26.9%), and Italy (down 22%).
