Spain's exports of fresh fruit and vegetables rose by 1% between January and February, according to the country's latest trade figures. Exports for the two months amounted to 3.4 billion euros, while imports soared 26% year-on-year to 802 million euros in the same period.
In volume terms, fruit and vegetable exports rose by 6.5% to 2.29 million tons. Vegetable exports, at 1.3 million tons, were 15% higher than in the same period in 2023, with a 0.6% increase in value to €1.96 billion.
This meant that the average export price fell by 12% to €1.49 per kilogram.
In the fruit sector, exports fell by 3% to 974,511 tons, with a value of €1.46 billion, up 2%. The average export price of fruit rose by 5% to €1.50 per kilogram.
Increase in Imports
Meanwhile, imports rose by 10.5% to 698,083 tons, driven by vegetables.
The volume and value of the vegetable category increased by 17% and 36% respectively to 402,758 tons and 323 million euros. Fruit imports rose by 2.6% to a total of 295,325 tons valued at 479 million euros, an increase of 20% over the previous year.
