In 2023, the UK import products worth $791.4 billion from around the world, marking a 3% decrease compared to $816.3 billion in 2022. The UK's imports accounted for 3.1% of the global import total. Gold, automobiles, crude oil, turbo-jet engines, and mobile phones were among the most valuable products imported by the UK in 2023.
From a continental perspective, half (50%) of the UK's total imports in 2023 came from European countries. Asia accounted for 29.6% of the UK's import volume, while 14.9% came from North American suppliers. Smaller proportions originated from Africa (3.1%), Latin America (1.7%), and then Oceania (0.8%), with Australia and New Zealand leading.

According to UK import data, the top 10 imported products accounted for nearly two-thirds (65.1%) of the total value of products purchased from all countries:
1. Machinery, including computers: $97.3 billion (12.3% of total imports)
2. Mineral fuels, including petroleum: $92.1 billion (11.6%)
3. Vehicles: $90 billion (11.4%)
4. Electrical machinery and equipment: $74 billion (9.3%)
5. Gems, precious metals: $63.4 billion (8%)
6. Pharmaceuticals: $27.3 billion (3.4%)
7. Optical, technical, medical apparatus: $23.5 billion (3%)
8. Plastics, plastic products: $19.6 billion (2.5%)
9. Aircraft, spacecraft: $15 billion (1.9%)
10. Organic chemicals: $12.9 billion (1.6%)
From 2022 to 2023, the aircraft and spacecraft category saw the highest growth rate, increasing by 70.7%. The second was automobile imports (up by 22.4%), followed by electrical machinery and equipment (up by 10.8%). The largest decrease was observed in imported mineral fuels, including petroleum, which fell by 32.9% year-on-year due to declines in UK spending on oil and natural gas.
