In 2023, worldwide corn exports—also referred to as maize—reached a total value of $52.9 billion USD.
Compared to 2019, when the total stood at $35.8 billion, the global corn trade has surged by 47.7% over five years. However, between 2022 and 2023, the value of corn exports saw a noticeable drop of -15.8%, falling from $62.9 billion.
In 2023, the top five corn-exporting countries—the United States, Brazil, Argentina, Ukraine, and France—accounted for a dominant 75.5% of all international corn sales, underscoring their importance in the global grain trade.
Regional Analysis of Corn Exports
When broken down by region:
· Latin America (excluding Mexico but including the Caribbean) led the way, contributing $20.2 billion, or 38.1% of global corn exports.
· North American suppliers followed, generating 27.4% of total exports.
· European exporters accounted for 26.8% of the total value.
Smaller shares came from:
· Asia: 5%
· Africa: 2.5%
· Oceania (including Australia, New Zealand, and Micronesia): 0.1%
