In 2023, global wine exports reached $38.9 billion, marking an overall 8.4% increase compared to 2019, when exports were valued at $35.9 billion. However, on a year-over-year basis, the global wine trade experienced a 2.2% decline from $39.8 billion in 2022.
The top 5 wine-exporting nations—France, Italy, Spain, Chile, and Australia—accounted for a dominant 70.5% of global wine exports in terms of total value.
From a regional perspective, Europe maintained its position as the largest wine exporter, with shipments totaling $30.4 billion, representing 78.2% of the world’s wine trade. Oceania, led by Australia and New Zealand, contributed 6.9%, while Latin America (excluding Mexico but including the Caribbean) accounted for 5.7%.
Asian exporters supplied 4% of global wine shipments, followed by North America at 3.4%, and Africa at 1.7%.
For classification, wines made from fresh grapes fall under the Harmonized Tariff System (HTS) code 2204.
