In 2023, the global export value of fresh apples amounted to a total of US$6.8 billion.
This represented a decrease in value from 2019, when worldwide apple exports were worth $7.4 billion, reflecting an average decline of -7.6% across all exporting nations.
In comparison to the previous year, global apple export values saw a slight dip of -0.8%, from $6.86 billion in 2022.
The top five exporters of fresh apples in 2023 were Italy, China, the United States, New Zealand, and South Africa. Together, these five countries accounted for nearly 58% (57.6%) of all apples exported globally.
Looking at exports by continent, European countries led the pack, with a total of $2.6 billion in apple shipments, or 38.6% of the global export value. Asia came second at 23.7%, followed by North America at 14.4%. Latin American countries (excluding Mexico, but including the Caribbean) contributed 8.2%, while Oceania, mainly New Zealand, accounted for 7.9%, and African exporters made up 7.2% of total exports.

4. New Zealand: $532.9 million (7.8%)
5. South Africa: $486.7 million (7.2%)
6. Chile: $481.8 million (7.1%)
7. Poland: $430.3 million (6.3%)
8. France: $426.4 million (6.3%)
9. Turkey: $175.4 million (2.6%)
10. Netherlands: $154.5 million (2.3%)
11. Japan: $119.2 million (1.8%)
12. Serbia: $98.6 million (1.4%)

Together, these 15 countries accounted for 88.8% of the world's total apple exports in 2023.
Among the leading exporters, the fastest-growing markets since 2022 included Lebanon (up 62.9%), Poland (up 35.9%), the Netherlands (up 23.6%), and Italy (up 9.5%).
Conversely, the countries that experienced a drop in apple export sales were led by Japan (-16.8%), Chile (-8.4%), Serbia (-7.6%), China (-6.7%), and New Zealand (-6.5%).
