In 2023, global wheat exports totaled $59.2 billion.
This represents a significant 46.6% increase in international wheat trade compared to 2019, when the global wheat export value was $40.4 billion.
However, from 2022 to 2023, the value of wheat exports fell by 13.3%, down from $68.3 billion in the previous year.
The top 5 wheat-exporting countries—Russia, Australia, Canada, the United States, and France—accounted for over 63.8% of the total value of wheat exports worldwide.
From a regional perspective, European countries collectively contributed over half of global wheat exports in 2023, with shipments worth $30 billion, representing 50.7% of the total. North America, home to major wheat exporters like the United States and Canada, supplied 25.4% of the global wheat market.
Oceania, primarily Australia, contributed 15.8%, while Asian exporters made up 4.5%. Smaller shares came from Latin American countries (4.5%), excluding Mexico but including the Caribbean, and African exporters (0.3%).

Meanwhile, countries experiencing declines in wheat exports included Argentina (down 72.1%), France (down 46.2%), the United States (down 28%), Germany (down 12.3%), and Australia (down 8.4%).
