The global export of fresh eggs reached a total of US$3 billion in 2023, marking a significant increase of 40.5% from 2019, when the total was $2.11 billion. In comparison to the previous year, exports of fresh eggs grew by 14.3%, climbing from $2.6 billion in 2022.
Eggs are among the world’s top 10 most consumed foods, according to Farm Flavor, ranking just ahead of apples and soup in popularity.
The top five eggs exporters in 2023 were the Netherlands, Poland, Turkey, China, and Germany. Together, these countries accounted for nearly 57.2% of global fresh egg exports in 2023.
Europe led the world in eggs exports, contributing a substantial 65.9% of the total global value, which amounted to $1.96 billion.
Asia came in second, accounting for 27.6% of global exports, while North America contributed 4.9%.
Smaller shares of exports came from Latin America (1.2%, excluding Mexico), Oceania (0.3%, led by Australia and New Zealand), and Africa (0.1%).
The Harmonized Tariff System code for fresh eggs in shell from domestic fowls (excluding fertilized eggs for incubation) is 040721.
