In 2023, Norway's seafood exports reached a record high, totaling NOK 172 billion. This is equivalent to supplying 39 million meals per day throughout the year.
Compared to 2022, the export value increased by NOK 20.7 billion, or 14%.
"2023 was the highest value year in the history of Norway's seafood exports. Seafood continues to be one of Norway’s most popular global trade commodities and has firmly established itself as the country’s second-largest export product, only behind oil and gas," said Christian Chramer, Managing Director of the Norwegian Seafood Council.
In 2022, Norway's seafood exports amounted to 2.8 million tons, which was a 5% decrease from the previous year. The output of the two most important species in Norway’s seafood industry—salmon and cod—declined last year. Additionally, the catch of pelagic fish such as mackerel and herring was at its lowest level since 2016.
