In 2023, the Republic of Turkey exported products worth $255.8 billion globally. Compared to $254.2 billion in 2022, Turkey's total export value remained stable, with an increase of 0.6% year-on-year.
Turkey's Top International Trade Customers
The latest Tendata Turkey export data shows that 52.4% of Turkey's exports were purchased by importers from the following countries: Germany (8.2%), the United States (5.8%), Iraq (5%), the United Kingdom (4.9%), Italy (4.8%), Russia (4.3%), France (4%), Spain (3.8%), the United Arab Emirates (3.4%), the Netherlands (3.1%), Romania (2.7%), and Poland (2.3%).
From a continental perspective, 56.8% of Turkey's exports went to European countries, 25.6% to Asian importers, and an additional 8.4% of goods were shipped to buyers in Africa. Turkey's Top 10 Export Products
According to two-digit HS codes, the latest Tendata Turkey export data shows that Turkey's top ten export products accounted for approximately three-fifths (58.4%) of the country's global export value:
1. Automobiles: $30.8 billion (12.1%)
2. Machinery including computers: $25.2 billion (9.9%)
3. Mineral fuels including petroleum: $16.4 billion (6.4%)
4. Electrical machinery, equipment: $15.4 billion (6%)
5. Gems, precious metals: $13.6 billion (5.3%)
6. Plastics, plastic products: $10.6 billion (4.1%)
7. Knit or crochet apparel, accessories: $10.3 billion (4%)
8. Iron and steel products: $10.1 billion (3.9%)
9. Iron and steel: $8.9 billion (3.5%)
10. Apparel, accessories (not knit or crochet): $8 billion (3.1%)
The latest Tendata Turkey export data shows that gems and precious metals are the fastest-growing category among the top ten export categories, with a growth of 33.7% since 2022. Gold is the primary driver of this growth. Automobiles rank second in export sales growth, increasing by 15%. Turkey's electrical machinery and equipment shipments rank third in terms of growth, with a year-on-year increase of 12%. The largest decline among Turkey's top ten export categories is in metal iron and steel, which decreased by -39.4%.
